Hello!
I’m Krissa Corbett Cavouras.
I’m a librarian by training and a communications strategist by trade, and I’m currently the resident words guy — Director of Marketing & Communications — for the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, the oldest and one of the most effective bicycle advocacy organizations in the United States. I live and breathe for better urban biking, so this is my dream job in my dream city.
Before relocating to San Francisco with my family, I was the Director of Digital Engagement for Brooklyn Public Library’s Marketing & Communications team for eight years, and co-hosted for the Library’s flagship podcast, Borrowed, which you can listen to here and subscribe via Apple Podcasts here. I’m also an occasional essayist! My latest was a piece for Romper about my complicated relationship with my dog.
My childhood was spent mostly in Africa. My parents’ work took us from Morocco to Cote D’Ivoire, from Tunisia to Kenya. I studied writing and political science at Sarah Lawrence College and then worked in publishing for a few years before getting my master’s degree at Pratt Institute’s School of Information.
When I’m not working and sometimes when I am, I’m on a bike — on the weekdays, I ride my kids to school and daycare on “Tess”, our beetle blue Tern GSD eBike, and the rest of the time I ride a custom-built gravel bike that I call Superyummy. If I’m not on my bike, I’m birding, reading novels about complex people, and devouring culture podcasts.
